about

Way Gone began as an experimental recording project between former bandmates Sean Fox (drums) and Thomas Provost (guitar). Using loops and live drumming, their early cassettes were full of jazz-chord swing and lost-cause syncopations soaked in reverb. When Andrew Bradt (tenor saxophone) joined with his magical paisley spirit, the trio found a new voice for its sonic offerings. While they played a set full of often-improvised originals, the group consistently covered the same song in every live show: "...what went wrong?...# of tracks > # of names" by Black Moth Super Rainbow.

As one of the founding acts based out of the Unit 3 collective space, Way Gone made their way around Windsor's stages and basements, playing with the likes of Cousins, Pick A Piper, Bulletproof Tiger, What Seas What Shores, Elos Arma, Junior Bob, Syzslack, Better Weather, Ape Cassette, Kero, and Learning.

Much would come out of the cross-multiplying and friend-mixing of Unit 3, including next-gen groups Safe Word, Toque, and Good Things, while Way Gone (named after a reactionary baseball-radio-call - "That ball is way gone!" - and the delightful song by Alden Penner) would quietly ring out after the group recorded two demos in the late Spring of 2012. In the same improvised spirit as the music, all three members would subsequently relocate to the same Montreal street.

*Touchdowns & 421 were recorded in the basement studio of Lambton Tower at the University of Windsor with the generous assistance of John Gould, Brady Holek, Ryan Lengyel, Rosina Riccardo, and Jon Ward.

Mastering by Landr in Montreal. Thanks Unit 3, 421, Martin Schiller, Glenn Hatt, Matt Vermouth, Mary Jane (Pip), and all of our friends. Peace, love,
